Age-based preferences in paired kidney exchange
نویسندگان
چکیده
We consider a model of Paired Kidney Exchange (PKE) with feasibility con-straints on the number of patient-donor pairs involved in exchanges. Patients’preferences are restricted so that patients prefer kidneys from compatible youngerdonors to kidneys from older donors. In this framework, patients with compati-ble donors may enroll on PKE programs to receive an organ with higher expectedgraft survival than that of their intended donor. PKE rules that satisfy individualrationality, efficiency, and strategy-proofness necessarily select pairwise exchanges.Such rules maximize the number of transplantations among pairs with the youngestdonors, and sequentially among pairs with donors of different age groups. A Proposed Mechanism for the Iranian Model of Kidney Donation (A Comparison of the Iranian and Roth’s Models)
Optimal resource allocation by means of the price mechanism is one of the main duties of the economics. Optimum allocation is sometimes realized not through the price mechanism, but via assignment algorithms due to an insufficient number of agents on either side of the exchange. Facing the same problem, the kidney market may be considered as a type of market failure that calls for market design...
متن کاملHLA Matching Trumps Donor Age: Donor-Recipient Pairing Characteristics That Impact Long-Term Success in Living Donor Kidney Transplantation in the Era of Paired Kidney Exchange
BACKGROUND We sought to identify donor characteristics influencing long-term graft survival, expressed by a novel measure, kidney life years (KLYs), in living donor kidney transplantation (LDKT). METHODS Cox and multiple regression analyses were applied to data from the Scientific Registry for Transplant Research from 1987 to 2015. Dependent variable was KLYs. RESULTS Living donor kidney tr...
متن کاملPaired Exchange: A New Innovation in Live Donor Kidney Transplantation
Barriers to traditional living-donor kidney transplantation include ABO incompatibility and positive cross-match. Paired exchange kidney transplantation (PEKT) is a viable an increasingly popular method to increase live donation. We discuss the pros and cons as well as the various ways to achieve PEKT along with a review of existing literature. To achieve the full potential of PEKT, the transpl...
متن کاملPaired Kidney Donation and Listed Exchange
Deceased-donor and live-donor kidneys are the two sources for transplantation, and these sources are utilized via two different programs. One of these programs, a paired kidney donation (PKD), involves two donor-patient pairs, for each of whom transplantation from donor to intended recipient is not possible due to medical incompatibilities, but such that the patient in each couple could receive...
متن کاملPatient and health professional preferences for organ allocation and procurement, end-of-life care and organization of care for patients with chronic kidney disease using a discrete choice experiment.
BACKGROUND Clinical practice, policy and research, and the ethical bases upon which they are founded, should be systematically and transparently informed by both patient and professional values. METHODS A discrete choice experiment was utilized to understand and quantify the preferences of 351 Canadian patients and healthcare providers in relation to ethically challenging aspects of the manag...
